Feeling Language Rhythms

Materials:

Optional: rhythm instruments

Concept:

Verses, songs, poems, etc. are rhythmically presented by the educator. The children accompany with clapping and stomping.

Variations:

accompaniment with rhythm instruments

swinging rhythmically with arms

older children speak or sing along

 

 

 

 

 

I Would Like to …

Concept:

The children are standing in a circle. The Educator starts saying: “I’d like to hop. Who would like to join me? If you do, hop with me!” Then it is the children’s turn. Each of them comes up with an activity he or she would like to do.
(Hönig, 2010)

 

 

 

 

 

Pantomime of Activities

Concept:

The educator mimes an activity. The children start guessing. After revealing the children mime the activity as well. Some examples (selection according to age):
• to eat, drink, sleep
• to wash (hands), comb hair, get dressed
• to water flowers, paint a picture, set the table

 

 

 

 

 

Come to Me!

Concept:

The educator shows how messages can be expressed non-verbally, i.e. ”Come to me” – to wave sb. nearer, “You did fine!” – to clap, “Yes – no” – to nod or shake one's head … Then the children try the game.
